Greetings beautiful people - I hope you all are starting off with a prosperous week. Although it's the 22nd, please pretend you received this newsletter yesterday on the 21st šŸ˜¬ Just to give a brief welcome to all of the new subscribers and also to reiterate what exactly this newsletter is - simply put, on the 21st of every month, you'll receive an email that consist of a few shared images of my film photography (I started shooting with film at the beginning of the year and I've been using this newsletter as an opportunity to share/document my journey), a curated music playlist of 21 of my favorite songs of the moment, and invites to any happenings that may be occurring in between newsletters. In other words this isn't spam...you'll only receive one email a month. Now that I've gotten that out of the way...let's get into this newsletter.

You may remember a couple of months ago when I shared that I purchased my first medium format camera (as a birthday gift to myself) and how I was looking forward to sharing the images...well that time has come! I'm please to say that I finally built up the courage to ACTUALLY take the camera out and shoot after having it for two months now lol.

I don't know why I was so intimidated to use it at first...actually I do - the Mamiya RB67 is pretty technical and despite the fact that I had already spent countless hours researching the camera, whenever it came time for me to test out some of the things I learned, I never felt confident. Long story short, last week I was struck with inspiration and I reached out to a muse/good friend of mine (who I had already been trying to photograph for months) to see if she was still open to creating images with me and thankfully she was!

What I've enjoyed most about my experience shooting with film is the intentionality I developed along the journey - because I'm limited to the amount of exposures (shots) I get to take per roll, I love how i'm kinda forced to slow down and really think about the shot I'm about to take.

Just to give you some insight/context - when shooting with 35mm film you can get anywhere from 24-36 exposures in a roll, whereas 120mm film gives you only 10-16 shots per roll. As you can see, when shooting in medium format (120mm film), you have to be even more intentional with your shots because you get 1/3 of the exposures per roll.

I hope I didn't lose ya'll with all of the techie talk lol - with that being said, I only shot 1 roll (10 exposures) of Kodak Portra 400 and I was extremely satisfied with my results; surprisingly out of the 10 shots, 6 of them were good! Can't wait to shoot again!

I feel like the images were getting better per shot.

Reece! If you're reading this...thank you again for creating with me and ultimately for your continuous support of me and my endeavors throughout the years - as always, you are appreciated!

Fin.

Just like all the other times, as a token of appreciation, I also curated another lilā€™ playlist compiled of 21 of my current favorite tunes (of the moment) that I invite you to vibe out to! I hope you enjoy and Iā€™ll be checking back in on the 21st of next month. Peace and love.

- Lorenzo
